An item referred to the magazine Revue Maritime dated 21 December 1933 reporting that the new French submarine mother ship Jules Verne had as homeport Brest but mainly responsible for escorting submarines to the colonies and taken care of them preventing dropouts. Earlier escorted the improvised mother ship Vitry le François the submarines Néréide, Joessel and Fulton towards Indo-Chine when the Néréide was forced to return caused by problems. Except for her own crew had the Jules Verne accommodation for 15 officers and 250 warrant officers and sailors. She was able to take care of six submarines at the same time. A test voyage with the submarines Pasteur, Poncelet and Phénix in the Bay of Biscay and a voyage with the submarine Archimède form Brest towards Morocco were both a success.
