Dutch floating crane Kolossus nearly lost according to the Dutch newspaper Rotterdamsch nieuwsblad 5 October 1916

An item dated Stavanger 30 September reported that the steamship Atje Jarl underway from Newcastle 60 miles west off Jaederen discovered a large Dutch floating crane and towed her into the harbour. She was loaded with coals and tiles underway from Rotterdam towards Archangelsk towed by the Dutch tugs Concordia and IJmuiden. Due to the stormy weather were both tugs lacking coal and one went to Egersund to bunker coal while the other stayed with the crane. The crew of the crane went on board of the tug and in the stormy weather was one lifeboat lost. The Atle Jarl managed after some hours of hard work to connect a cable to the crane and brought her. She was valued to be around 1.000.000 Dutch guilders or 1.500.000 Norwegian crones. The edition dated 12 October published an item dated Drontheim 5 October reported that the Dutch floating crane Kolossus brought in by the steamship Atle Jarl a day earlier was stated to be in seaworthy condition. She was valued on 1.000.000 Dutch guilders and due to the salvage by the Atle Jarl was her owner to receive around 200.000 Norwegian crones as salvage money. The edition dated 10 November published an item dated Christiania the 4^th reporting that the Thursday before two Dutch tugs arrived in Aalesund with on board the crew of a large floating crane which was released during a heavy storm. One of the two tugs departed later again to sea to search for the crane. The editors of the newspaper thought it was the crane Kolossus underway from Rotterdam towards Archangelsk. The edition dated 29 November published an item dated Tromsö the 15th reporting that the Dutch floating crane Kolossus was stranded. After an investigation she was found to be seaworthy and continued her voyage towards Alexandrovsk. The newspaper Algemeen Handelsblad dated 2 December published an item dated Christiana 25 November reporting that the Kolossus arrived in Honnigwaag. The newspaper Rotterdamsch nieuwsblad dated 7 December published an item dated Kristiana dated 2th December reporting that the Kolossus underway from Vardö towards Archangelsk returned however at Vardö.
