French barbette ship Neptune performed well during trials according to the Dutch magazine Marineblad dated 1892-1893 no. 10

An item referred to the magazine Le Yacht reporting that the French battleship Neptune of 10.580 tons achieved during a trial of 24 hours off Brest despite the quite high seas a medium speed of 13 miles with 4.600 ihp.(1) The seagoing qualities were very well.

1. Of the Marceau barbette class ships with as sister ships Marceau and the Magenta. Laid down at Brest in February 1882, launched in May five years later, completed in July 1892 and stricken in 1913. Her displacement was 10.810 tons, the Magenta 10.680 and the Marceau 10.558 tons.
