British trawlers in battle with German torpedo boats according to the Dutch newspaper Algemeen Handelsblad dated 3 May 1915
An item referred to a telegram of her correspondent at Maassluis who reported that on the 2nd the Norwegian steamship Varild arrived coming from London. At the North Sea she saved two officers of a German torpedo boat which was sunk by a British patrol vessel. Both officers were handed over to the commanding officer of this patrol vessel. Her correspondent at Rotterdam supplied more details. The second mate of the Varild mr. H. Larsen underway from London towards Rotterdam said that she was stopped by two German torpedo boats on last Saturday afternoon. After her papers were controlled was captain A. Moeland allowed to continue his voyage. At that moment arrived 3 British steam trawlers on the scene of which the Mauri of Cardiff rammed one of the German torpedo boats at her turret causing heavily damage and throwing 5ive men over board. The Mauri saved one men and the Varild a second one. The second German torpedo boat attacked the trawlers of which two fled. Briitsh gunfire alarmed six British destroyers and now the were the Germans pursued which went probably in the direction of Zeebrugge. The Varild was forced to transferred the German officer which was saved to the Mauri. The Mauri was ordered to transport him towardsCardiff. Apparently according to this tiding was the rammed German torpedo boat (the A6) not sunk while she managed although damaged to escape direction Zeebrugge.
