Japanese navy using the fishery to increase her influence in the Dutch East Indies according to the Dutch newspaper Soerabaijasch handelsblad dated 29 January 1942

An item reported that the Japanese navy continued with founding support points in the Indies Archipelago using her fishery. A good example was the in November 1940 founded Japan Ocean Bonito en Tonijn Visscherij Mij. (Nippon Enyo Katsuo Maguro K.K.) with a capital of 35.000.000 yen which want to found stations at Amboina, Sabang, Menado, Batavia, Surabaya and Manokwari. Using trawlers the company wanted to take over the complete fishery in the Archipelago. The journalist made clear that these stations chosen by the fishery company were the most vital/strategical points making it possible for the Japanese navy to have there experts (navy reserve personnel!) available well known with the local fairways.
