Span placements of French (subaltern) officers in active serviceaccording to the Dutch magazine Marineblad dated 1912-1913 no. 8

An item reported that the French navy set the placement on board  as follows: flag officers and captains 2 years, captain lieutenants 1,5 years and finally subaltern officers 2 years abroad and on board of training ships and 1,5 years on board of the warships and torpedo boats.
