The Spanish battleships building program according to the Dutch magazine Marineblad dated 1913-1914 no. 7

An item referred to the magazine Monitor de la flotte dated 1 November 1913 which republished a news item from the Journal d’Espagne dealing with the newest Spanish building plans. Next to the Espana-class (10 was the building intended of 3-21.000 ton battleships with a main armament of 8-38,1cm guns and speed of 21 miles.(2) The editor of the Dutch magazine did not think that item was reliable. In his opinion it was impossible to combine such a displacement with such heavy calibre guns. Earlier items which spoke of 21.000 tons and 8-34,3cm guns were well believable.

Notes
1. The Espana-class of battleships consisted of the Espana, Jaime I and the Alfonso XIII with a displacement of 15.452 (normal)-15.700 (maximum) tons and a main armament of 4x2-30,5cm guns. The Espana was used by Dutch naval officers and politicians as an alternative during the discussions if the Netherlands needed (semi)dreadnoughts.
2. The three projected battleships were to be laid down in 1914-1915 and to be completed at the end of 1920. Just like the Dutch plans for building dreadnoughts was the project abandoned.
