An item dated Vienna the 23rd reported that the Austrian submarine 12 attacked on the 21st in the Strait of Otranto a French fleet of 16 capital ships. She fired two torpedoes hitting the flagship which was of the Courbet type.(1) Due to the mist, rough sea, presence of enemy vessels and the confusion within the French fleet was men not able to see what happened with the torpedoed ship. The edition dated the 25th reported that she was hit by one torpedo at the bow although causing little damage.

1. The newspaper described these dreadnoughts as measuring 23.500 ton, with a crew of more as 1.100 men and an armament consisting of 12-30,5cm guns, 22-14cm guns and 4-4,7cm guns.
