An item reported that the wood-built ships which were so popular in the USA during the First World War while offering more ‘protection’ as steel-built ships against submarine attacks were such a failure that the US cabinet ordered to break up all hulls stills standing on the slips. The slips came so available for more seaworthy ships. The wood-built ships were not capable to be used in rough seas.
