Flat-bottomed vessels of the French-Batavia flotilla be fitted out with heaviest calibre available according to the Dutch newspaper Bataafsche Leeuwarder Courant dated 7 January 1804

An item dated Flushing 25 December 1803 reported that the designed flat-bottomed vessels could be armed with the heaviest calibre guns without fear to be damaged by the knockback after being fired. The tests while anchored or with a calm sea off Boulogne were successful. On 25 December however were the tests repeated now with a hollow sea as reported by adjutant Roepel. Totally were 27 shots done with the 24pd gun placed on the bow without any problem. The vessel was still manoeuvrable as a top.
