Minister of navy visiting Flushing, Netherlands according to the Dutch newspaper Amsterdamsche courant dated 13 September 1806

An item dated Flushing the 7th reported that on the Monday before 06.00 o’clock unexpectedly the minister of navy arrived. He was welcomed by commissary Speleveld and rear admiral Lemmers.(1) The ministers visited with greatest possible accuracy all buildings, the shipyard and so on. He spoke with all yard workmen and inspected the ships lying on the roads. Afterwards he spoke with the commissary and rear-admiral on the office of the navy, visited a local called de Oude Werf and ended his visit at Flushing with a conference with general Monnet and some French employees.

1. Nicolaas Lemmers (1759/1760-21 January 1822 Amsterdam, Netherlands), served also in the Royal Netherlands navy after 1815 in the rank of rear admiral and became even director general of the navy at Amsterdam.
