British cabinet split over new building capital ships according to the Dutch newspaper Algemeen Handelsblad dated 9 December 1920
An item referred to the British newspaper Daily Mail that within the British cabinet resistance was against the intentions of the Admiralty to ask in the next budget for new building of battleships. While the USA and Japan were building battleships and battle cruisers needed England also built such capital ships to prevent loosing her first place as major power. However the opinions were divided if such ships were still needed regarded the experiences of the First World War. Sir Percy Scott was against while building such expensive ship of 8-9 million was a mistake while a single plane or submarine was able to destroy them. Even if the USA and Japan did not realize that warfare was changed due to the submarine and the aircraft, England could not afford such a luxury.
