Fitting out and use of keel lighters allowed by government of Mauritius according to the Dutch newspaper Algemeen Handelsblad dated 22 August 1875

An item dated Amsterdam the 21st referred to a private letter received from Mauritius dated 22 July that the government over there allowed the fitting out of keel lighters. The result of this decision was that the monopoly of the dry docks existing since many years  would largely disappear. Even more important was the possibility that the huge repair costs would decreased. One of the master shipbuilders was already fitting out a keel lighter.
