An item reported that the German steam tanker Helios captain P. Hollander of the Deutsch-Amerikanische Petroleum Gesellschaft at Hamburg on 20 April the French 3-mast schooner Magnolia from St. Malo met on 44°19’ North altitude and 36°29’ West longitude. The French ship was in a very worst condition and flying SOS signals. Her captain asked for assistance while it was impossible for him to reach a harbour. Her crew of 32 men and some victuals were taken on board and the schooner was set into fire to prevent her becoming dangerous for the shipping. The Frenchmen were on the 27th at 6.00 o’clock off Cherbourg handed over to the tug Dinette.
