Norwegian steam tanker Polar Chief converted into a whale factory at Amsterdam, Netherlands according to the Dutch newspaper De Sumatra post dated 8 August 1936

An item reported the arrival at IJmuiden on the same morning of the 8.000 ton Norwegian steam tanker Polar Chief which had been laid up at the harbour of Tonsberg for quite what time. She was to be docked in the afternoon at Amsterdam and converted within two months into a whale factory by the Amsterdamsche Droogdok Maatschappij. Her stern was to be renewed and fitted out with a slipway to be able to draw the whales into the ship.
