Dutch naval movements in the Dutch East Indies according to the Nederlandsche Staatscourant dated 24 August 1838
The Hague, 23 August. The Dutch newspaper Avondbode supplied
some tidings dealing with the situation in the Dutch East Indies. According to this
newspaper arrived 28 January at Rio the Dutch corvette Zr. Ms. corvette Kastor
and the colonial schooner Krokodil ordered to patrol against the pirates in the
waters of Lima. The iron steamboat Etna that served very well was to be armed
within short time to cruise just like the Hekla against the pirates along the
North East coast of Java. Mr. Bennett, engineer of the Nederlandsche Stoomboot
Maatschappij at Rotterdam who assisted by sending both iron ships to the Indies
and assembling them there returned to the Netherlands.
