Cadiz,
6 August. Don Barcelo ordered to built several gun chaloupes caused by the
successful experiment. These chaloupes were armed with just one gun a 24pdr or
a 30pdr. They were difficult to be hit due to the small surface above the water
level and had only bombs to fear. Two of these chaloupes bombarded recently
Gibraltar and although the British shot more as 500 times they were not hit.
The royal frigate Juno which arrived in this harbour brought with her tidings
from the Philippines. She left Cavite 12 January loaded with East Indies
stores. Everything was well at the islands when she left and preparations were
made to defend an eventual enemy.
