The British navy budget increased according to Dutch newspaper Schiedamsche Courant dated 30 April 1936

London, 30 April. A supplemental budget caused an increase of the budget with 8,500,000-10,500,000 pound sterling needed to expand the defence works of the naval base at Singapore, almost 1,000,000 pound sterling to expand the dock facilities at Devonport and Gibraltar to be able to repair also the largest warships in these two harbours. The number of pupil sailors and marines was to be increased before 1 March 1937 with another 6,000-7,000 men.
