The Russian and Turkish navies in the Levant and Black Sea according to the Nederlandsche Staatscourant dated 9 April 1829

The newspaper Beobachter published tidings from Constantinople dated until 10 March. According to these everything was done to enlarge the Turkish fleet. At that moment were before the arsenal at Constantinople 10 warships including 5 ships of the line ready to be joined within some weeks by some frigates and corvettes. From Sinope arrived a corvette at Constantinople despite the Russian ships patrolling in the Black Sea. The manning of the ships was however a large problem due to lacking experienced sailors which were in the past Greeks.
