United States wanted to buy Dutch islands Curacao and Bonaire in the West Indies to found a naval base according to the Dutch newspaper Schiedamsche Courant dated 15 August 1913

The press association Vaz Dias at Amsterdam received a telegram from Washington according to which the United states wanted to negotiate with the Netherlands for buying the islands Curacao and Bonaire for founding a naval base. From The Hague where the Dutch cabinet and parliament are situated was information received that the purpose of the buying was to obtain concessions to establish settlements for foreign merchants and merchant companies.
