American navy decommissioned large number of ships according to the Dutch newspaper Het Vaderland: staat- en letterkundig nieuwsblad morning edition dated 7 March 1922

The American minister of navy ordered according to a tiding from the Press Association Reuter at Washington to decommission again 50 destroyers and 60 auxiliary vessels. This order was caused by a decision of the Congress to reduce the fuel consumption. A week earlier were all ready 100 destroyers decommissioned. Just 70 destroyers stayed in full service while another 40 served with a string reduced crew.
