French naval balloons according to the Dutch newspaper Het Vaderland: staat- en letterkundig nieuwblad evening edition dated 5 April 1933
The French navy possessed two kinds of controlled balloons both of the Zodiac type namely the Vedettes and the Escorteurs. The Vedettes have a length of 25 metres, a across-cut of 13 metres and a gas bunker capacity of 3,400M3. Their empty weight is 2,400 kilo and they could carry with them a cargo of 1,450 kilo. Their cruising speed is 70 kilometres and they are used for coastal patrolling. The Escorteurs of which now one is wrecked are convoy balloons and used as scout for submarines. These balloons are of the semi stiff type for instance the nose is strengthened with a metal construction. With a length of 80 metres and a cross-cut of 17,5 metres is the gas bunker capacity maximum 10,000M3. The maximum speed is 105 kilometres and the range 1,800 metres.
