Naval operations of the Dutch East Company at Bengal according to the Generale Missive dated 31 March 1738

At Batavia arrived 31 January the Hof niet altijd Winter coming from Bengal with a cargo valued fl. 427.139 of which for fl. 399.712 was destined for Europe and a letter dated 15 November 1737. The Loenderveen still didn’t arrived at Hooghly. Due to an indescribable ocean were the Strijen, Dishoeck, Schuitwijk and Ritthem smashed on the coast of Volta just like the sloops Volkera and Sibilla. The galliot Putter was smashed 4 cable lengths into the wood. The sloop Volta was also stranded, the Jager missing and the Wachter was last seen without masts. The Schuitwijk was slightly damaged in contrary to the heavily damaged Dishoeck and the Ritthem, which was not longer worth to be repaired. It was possible in which manner the cargo’s were lost or damaged. The British suffered even much more.
