Pirates in the Mediterranean according to the Nederlandsche Staatscourant dated 16 August 1827

Trieste, 23 July. Yesterday arrived after a voyage of 28 days coming from Zante the Austrian brigantine Cesar, master Stephano Jovonich. She was after 2 days sailing in the waters of Cephalonje attacked by two pirates, of one them with a crew of 60 men. They took all of the money, 2 barrels sugar, a gun and the small arms while ill-treating the crew for more valuable things. From Venice came also tidings that the problems with the pirates increased more and more, not only in the Levant but even off Venice.
