Russian government desired her own floating batteries according to the Dutch newspaper Nederlandsche staatscourant dated 21 November 1855

An item referred to Parisian newspapers reporting that the Russian government promised a premium to anyone able to supply her the necessary details to add floating batteries to the Russian navy. This was a result of the bombardment done by Allied floating batteries at Kinburn.(1)

1. During the Crimean War (October 1853-February 1856) between the Russian empire against the United Kingdom, France and the Ottoman empire, Piedmont-Sardinia and Austria. French armoured floating batteries destroyed without problems on 17 October 1855 Russian forts at Kinburn or Kil-Bouron within 4 hours.
