The American navy and the cuts according to the Dutch newspaper Het Vaderland: staat- en letterkundig nieuwsblad evening edition dated 30 September 1931

The American president Hoover met when he proposed to reduce the annual naval budgets heavy protests coming from within the navy. According to a news item from the press association Reuter wasn’t Hoover pleased with the comments. Those who wanted a strong American navy were powerful even in the Congress. Despite these protests was a item dated Washington, 30 September published according to which just the building of four new torpedo boats was allowed. Together with one torpedo boat all ready on stocks was this the complete American naval shipbuilding program for that year.
