The Egyptian and Turkish navies in the Mediterranean according to the Nederlandsche Staatscourant dated 1 September 1838

From Candia arrived tidings dated 7 August that according to rumours the Pasha of Egypt send a strong squadron to the waters of Rhodes and to watch the Turkish fleet. The Egyptian fleet consisted at that moment of 9 ships of the line, 5 frigates, 5 corvettes, 6 brigs and goelettes and a steamboat. These days was also the new ship of the line no. 10 completed. The main part of the fleet was cruising off the Egyptian coast until the waters of Candia were safe again.
