The Egyptian, Greek and Turkish navies in the Mediterranean according to the Nederlandsche Staatscourant dated 4 October 1824

Vienna, 22 September. According to tidings from Constantinople dated 21 August was the Egyptian fleet 11 en 12 August off Rhodes. The captain of a French warship went on board of the admirals’ ship and spoke with Ibrahim Pasha who was very anxious to watch the French sailors. According to this captain the Egyptian fleet consisted of 9 frigates, 14 corvettes, 40 brigs and goelettes and around 240 transports. The regular troops numbered around 18.000 men.

Augsburg, 27 September. The local newspaper published a news item dated Trieste 18 September. From Navarino arrived tidings dated until 31 August claiming that there was plague on board of the Egyptian fleet off Rhodes. Letters from Smyrna dated 22 and 23 August confirmed the tiding that a 46-gun Turkish frigate was burnt, 2 brigs and a corvette captured and 63 transports destroyed. One of the letters reported that the Captain Pasha while pursued by the Greeks went to Boudron. According to a news item dated Smyrna 23 August was the Captain Pasha still off Samos but lost he indeed 3 or 4 warships among a very beautiful frigate.
