Corfu,
Greece, 27 September. Tidings from Ithaka and other places and confirmed by
master Andres Vlassopulo of Ithaka who arrived 26 September referred to the
feasts at Morea due to the total loss of the Turkish and Egyptian fleets. It
was the third sea battle in which a 100 large and small vessels were burnt,
shot down or captured off Rhodus, Cos (coast of Caramania and Bruduin) and where
the largest frigate of Mehemet Ali, with on board admiral Gibraltar, the son of
Mehemet and one French renegade pasha was burned. Despite they tried to escape
all three were taken prisoner and brought to Napoli-di-Romania with a captured
frigate, a corvette and a brig with on board 3.000.000 piasters in Turkish
coins and 32 transports part of both fleets.
