The Greek and Turkish navies in the Mediterranean according to the Nederlandsche Staatscourant dated 8 October 1824

Paris, 4 October. The Greek fleet lost in the sea battle off Samos but not after using with success all of her fire ships against the Turkish fleet But the Greeks lost also 3 brigs and Canaris was killed. His death was caused by his personal attack with a fire ship against the admirals' ship commanded by Captain pasha Koreb causing the Turkish ship to explode without any survivors. The Turkish lost 94 frigates, brigs and corvettes which were shot down, captured or forced to be beached. This was the end of the Turkish expedition send from Constantinople with a similar fate for the Egyptian fleet.
