1. France wanted to expand her possessions in this area which resulted in a war that year with Siam which latter country ceded Laos to France. The French possessions are best known as Indochina. The Siamese claims on the Shan region in North East Burma were given up in advantage of the British. The French navy bombarded Bangkok, the results were just after this event described by a Dutch naval officer.
