The privateers fitted out by Bertrand de Lis at Gibraltar according to the Nederlandsche Staatscourant dated 4 January 1826

Paris, 30 December 1825. According to the newest letters of Almeria and other harbours at the Strait was Bertrand de Lis and a large amount of his followers already at Gibraltar, busy with fitting out privateers, and while flying the colours of the American independent states attacking Spanish ships. They even cruised near the coast within gunshot distance while they know that the fortress were unarmed. It was stated that the British also fitted out some privateers.
