The Egyptian and Turkish navies in the Levant according to the Nederlandsche Staatscourant dated 16 July 1844

According to tidings from Constantinople dated 26 June signed the Divan and the Pasha of Egypt a contract dealing with a regular steam line between Alexandria and Constantinople. Lacking Turkish steamboats were for the time being two Egyptian steamboats used. From Mitylene arrived tidings that the grand admiral with his squadron of 5 large and some smaller warships 16 July departed towards Syria.
