Questions in the Dutch parliament dealing with the former Austrian navy officers in Dutch service in 1922

In the meeting of the Dutch Parliament on 22 December 1922 asked member Staalman the minster of marine Westerveld if it was correct that foreign officers were working as hydrographic employees for the department of colonies. Staalman was informed that a former lieutenant of the Austrian-Hungarian navy and 3 other Hungarians were appointed and he wanted to know what the motivations were for such a decision. Westerveld answered that in 1921 two former navy oficers of the Austrian-Hungarian navy temporarily were appointed to serve on board of the two survey vessels and if necesary to help in the winter to work out the results of the surveys. There were at that moment none Dutch navy officers available and it was doubted if the private sector could supply the necessary skilled personnel. Staalman asked the minister to end this situation as soon as possible, something the minister agreed to do.
