American whaler Java lying off Cape de Verde according to the Whalemen’s Shipping List dated Tuesday 7 January 1873

An item referred to a letter written by captain Kelly on 16 November on board of the bark Java of New Bedford lying at sea off Cape de Verde, Since the start of the voyage 33 days earlier was just one small whale caught resulting in 27 barrels. The catch of another whale failed. His intention was to go north towards the Falkland Islands returning in May 1873 at Honolulu.
