Screw steamships become the major vessels in the whaling and sealing according to the Dutch newspaper Weekblad van Den Helder en het Nieuwediep dated 25 May 1857

An item reported that the first iron screw steamship build for whaling and sealing left the Tyne towards Davis Strait. It was believed that within short time only vessels of this kind were to be used for this purpose.
