Dutch corvette Argo renamed Van Speyk as ordered by the crown according to the Dutch newspaper Middelburgsche Courant dated 17 February 1831

An item dated The Hague, Netherlands the 13th reported that the Dutch crown decided that in the future there always had to be a Dutch warship in service called Van Speyk.(1) For this purpose was the corvette Argo (2) at that moment being built at the navy yard at Amsterdam, Netherlands was to be renamed Van Speyk.(1)

Notes
1. Lieutenant 2nd class J.C.J. van Speyk was a Dutch officer commanding the gunboat No. 2 and refused to surrender to the Belgian rebels at Antwerp, Belgium when his boat was driven against the river bank and blew her up.
