A letter written by captain King on board of the bark Tropic Bird from New Bedford, USA at St. Helena on 6th June reported a catch of 450 barrels sperm oil and 170 barrels humpback oil. With the brig John Pearce were 143 barrels sperm oil sent home. The next destination was the African coast for hunting sperm and humpback whales.(1)
