Russian batteries destroyed Turkish monitor on the Danube according to the Dutch newspaper De grondwet dated 22 May 1877

An item dated Kischeneff 12th referred to an official statement that a day earlier Russian batteries destroyed a large Turkish monitor on the Danube. A projectile hit the steam boiler which exploded setting fire in the powder magazine causing her sinking. The whole crew included 300 soldiers were killed.
