British shipyards building Russian armoured ships according to the Dutch newspaper Java-bode dated 3 September 1862


An item reported that the Russian government ordered some British shipyards to built armoured ships. The shipyard of the Thames Shipbuilding Company already started under the supervision of the Russian naval captain Schwartz with the building of an armoured floating battery (1) which would have a strength and weight exceeding all batteries until now built. The Danish government also ordered British shipyards to built armoured ships.
