Russian warships Minin and corvette Askold added to Russian Mediterreanean squadron according to the Dutch newspaper Leeuwarder courant dated 16 October 1880

The Minin

An item dated Viena, Austria 14th referred to the Politsische Correspondenz which reported from Castelnuovo, Italy that on short notice the Russian squadron would be strengthened with the armoured frigate Minin (1) and the corvette Askiold.(2)

1. Armoured cruiser, laid down at the shipyard of Baltic Works, St. Petersburg, Russia as a low freeboard turret ship 24 November  1866, launched on 3 November 1869, building stopped when the similar in design British HMS Captain sunk, completed as an armoured cruiser in 1878, training ship since?, renamed Ladoga in October 1908, classified as a minelayer in 1909 and sunk when striking a mine laid by the German submarine UC4 on 15 August 1915.
2. Wood-built screw steam corvette Askold, laid down at Okhta in 1862. Launched in 1863, completed in 1864 and stricken around 1890.
