Portuguese ship Netunno-Grande arrived at Lisbon, Portugal returning from China according to the Dutch newspaper Diemer- of Watergraafs-meersche courant dated 22 October 1781

An item dated Lisbon, Portugal 21 September reported the arrival on the 15th of the Portuguese ship Nettuno-Grande which left ton 18 January Canton, China. A passenger on board stated that around the same time 12 rich-loaded ships of the British East India Company left Canon. They met five of those ships off Ile de France [Mauritius] and Bourbon. The British commanding officer told the Portuguese captain that he was lacking enough victuals to go for the ordered destination namely the island St. Helen. He decided instead to visit Cape of Good Hope to obtain there the necessary provisions.
