French corvette le Rhin still lying at Akaroa, New Zealand according to the Dutch newspaper Middelburgsche Courant dated 15 July 1843

An item dated Paris, France 10th  referred to tidings received from a ship arrived at Le Havre, France and which left on 24th February the bay of Akaroa, New Zealand dealing with the events at Akaroa. On 2nd February arrived there the British governor on board of the brig Victoria. After a long discussion with the commanding officer of the French station there hoisted the governor on the 9th the British flag despite lacking official instructions of his government. The commanding officer of the French corvette le Rhin namely Berart who replaced Levaud on this station protested and was now waiting for specific orders of his government.
