Japan and China ordered warships in USA respectively Germany according to the Dutch newspaper Rotterdamsch nieuwsblad dated 19 August 1895

An item dated Rotterdam, Netherlands the 17th reported that the Japanese cabinet would probably order the building of warships in the USA. The director of the company Union Iron Works, San Francisco, USA who also built the cruiser Olympia would go to Japan to sign there the necessary contracts. The German shipyard Vulkan, Stettin, Germany delivered in the meantime two torpedo boats to the Chinese government while a destroyer nearly was completed.
