Hurricane harassed merchant shipping at Mauritius according to the Dutch newspaper Algemeen Handelsblad dated 21 May 1892

An item dated London, England 20th reported that Mauritius was harassed by a hurricane causing severe damage. Damaged were the British barks Wm. Wilson and Oaklands, German schooner Paula, Dutch bark Prinses Wilhelmina and the steamships Pentakota and Umbella. Stranded were the ships Aconcagua, Queen of Scots, Eurydice, Sierra Parima, Amaranth and Gladiator.
