Dutch screw steamship 4th class Amboina in 1880 according to the Colonial Account [Dutch East Indies] over 1881


Composite-built. Launched in 1872. Armed with 3 guns. Draught 3,5 metres. Horsepower 80nhp. Tonnage 322 tons. Maximum speed during a watch of 4 hours 6-7 geographic miles while under steam. The crew consisted on 31 December 1880 of 68 (fixed 74) Europeans and 23 (fixed 24) natives and she was at that moment stationed at Atjeh. On 30 January 1881 replaced at the station Northern Sumatra by the Madura and on 10 March 1881 at Surabaya, Dutch East Indies temporarily decommissioned. Arrived on 24 August 1873 in the Dutch East Indies.(1)

1. On stocks at the Kon, Fabriek van Stoom- en andere Werktuigen, Amsterdam, Netherlands in June 1872, launched on 21 January 1873, commissioned lieutenant 1e class jhr. A.F. Meijer on 20 May 1873, departed from the shipyard towards the Dutch East Indies on 26 may 1873, stricken on 8 October 1881, condemned, public auction, with the intention that she was not to be broken up, at the navy yard at Surabaya, Dutch East Indies on Saturday 09.00 o’clock 13 May 1882, dimensions 42,00 (between perpendiculars)-8,40 x 3,60 metres, displacement 695 ton, one screw, one 90 nhp/350 ehp horizontal injection condensation engine, speed 7,5 miles, an armament of 2 guns (1 rifled 16cm, 2-12cm) and a crew numbering 75 men.
