Dutch screw steamship 4th class Pontianak in 1880 according to the Colonial Account [Dutch East Indies] over 1881


Composite-built. Launched in 1872. Armed with 3 guns. Draught 3,5 metres. Horsepower 90nhp. Tonnage 350 tons. Maximum speed during a watch of 4 hours 6-7 geographic miles while under steam. Arrived on 7 September 1874 in the Dutch East Indies. Departed on 28 December 1879 from Padang towards Atjeh and arrived there on 5 January 1880. Docked at Penang 13-27 February 1880. In May 1881 was she extracted from the naval strength on the station Northern Sumatra and sent to Batavia. Stationed on 31 December 1880 at Atjeh. The crew consisted on 31 December 1880 of 69 (fixed 74) Europeans and 24 (fixed 24) natives.(1)

Commijs on 25 May 1874, left the shipyard on 28 May 1874, used for several voyages towards Netherlands New Guinea and the Aroe Islands to supervise the pearl fishers in 1893-1894, decommissioned on 1 February 1893, condemned and sold for ƒ 10.000,00. Composite-built and coppered. Displacement 732 tons, dimensions 42,00-45,00 x 8,80 x 3,60 metres, one horizontal working injection condensing engine, one screw, speed 9,5 miles and horsepower 90 nhp. Her crew numbered in 1885 75 Europeans and 24 natives. Original armament consisted of 1-rifled 18cm guns and 2-12cm KA no.1 guns, replaced in 1891 at Surabaya, Dutch East Indies by 1 rifled 16cm gun and 2-3,7cm guns.
