Laid down at the shipyard of Marietta Manufacturing Company, Point Pleasant, USA on 20 November 1962, launched on 30 July 1964. Handed over to the Boland Machine Mfg. Company, New Orleans, USA on 30 July 1966 where she was to be completed, delivered to the navy on 31 January 1969, decommissioned and handed over to the Military Sealift Command where she served as the USNS Kellar, leased to Portugal on 21 January 1972 and finally handed over to Portugal as part of the Security Assistance Program on 11 February 1988. Displacement 1.297 (standard)-1,400 (full load) tons and as dimensions 209 x 39 x 14 feet or 63,7 x 11,3 x 4,6 metres. Speed 15-17 knots. Her crew numbered 26 men. Not armed.
