American destroyer USS Downes (1913-1934) on 1 September 1915

Building approved in 1911. Displacement 1.010 tons. First material ordered after 1 month. Keel laid after 9,5 months. Delivered to the US government after 3 years and 5 months. Contracted building time 2 years so 5 months (?) too late.(1)

1. Cassin-class. Laid down at the shipyard of the New York Shipbuilding Company, Camden, New Jersey, USA on 27 June 1912, launched on 8 November 193 and commissioned on 11 February 1915. Hull number DD-45.
