Belgian press asked for a Belgian navy according to the Dutch magazine Marineblad dated 1937 no. 4

An item referred to the magazine Le Yacht dated 29 May 1937 reporting that as a result of the Spanish Civil War the Belgian press asked for an own Belgian navy. According to rumours considered the Belgian cabinet to replace in the future the Zinnia by a small cruiser.(1)

Note
1. The Zinnia was acquired on 19 April 1920 being a former sloop of the Flower-class of the Royal British Navy, launched on 1 August 1915. Captured by German forces in 1940, rebuilt and heavily armed renamed Barbara in the Kriegsmarine, given back to Belgium in 1945, renamed Breydel and finally broken up in 1952.
